SPTE / TFS
Definition and basic composition
Definition: SPTE (tin-plated steel sheet)/TFS (tin-free steel
sheet) is a common metal material used to make tinplate cans and
other food packaging.
Composition: SPTE is a layer of tin plated on a low-carbon steel
substrate, while TFS is a layer of chromium or chromium oxide film
formed on low-carbon steel by chemical methods to provide corrosion
resistance and other properties.
Features
1. Corrosion resistance: Both have good corrosion resistance. The
tin layer of SPTE can effectively block air and moisture to prevent
the steel substrate from rusting; the chromium layer of TFS can
also provide reliable anti-rust protection, suitable for packaging
all kinds of food.
2. Strength and toughness: With low-carbon steel as the substrate,
it has certain strength and toughness, can withstand certain
pressure and impact, is not easy to deform or break during
transportation and storage, and protects the integrity of food.
3. Processing performance: It has good ductility and stampability,
and is easy to be processed into tinplate cans of various shapes to
meet the needs of different food packaging.
4. Hygiene and safety: It meets the food packaging hygiene
standards, is non-toxic and tasteless, will not pollute food, and
ensures the safety and quality of food.
5. Surface quality: The surface is smooth and flat, the tin layer
on the SPTE surface has a good gloss, and the TFS surface is also
relatively uniform, which is conducive to printing and coating, and
can achieve exquisite packaging design to attract consumers.
Application areas
1. Beverage packaging: such as canned packaging of carbonated
beverages, fruit juice drinks, etc., can effectively maintain the
quality and taste of beverages, and prevent chemical reactions
between beverages and metals.
2. Canned food packaging: including canned meat, fish, fruits,
